If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time, it’s obvious that I am a big fan of The Beatles. That’s why I came up with Beatles Wednesday’s, so I could spread the love. This post is serving a duel purpose today, because I am also writing this as part of B4Peace.
Everyone knows that John Lennon was an important figurehead for the peace movement. But the entire group as a whole was a very peaceful bunch. Most of their songs were about love. You can’t have peace without love, ya’ll.
It took me a few minutes, but one of my favorite songs with the greatest message of groovy harmony and accord is “The Word.” The 6th track from The Beatles 6th album Rubber Soul. They were the original hippies.
(Marijuana is optional.)
Say the word and you’ll be free,
Say the word and be like me,
Say the word I’m thinking of,
Have you heard the word is love?
It’s so fine,
It’s sunshine,
It’s the word, love.
In the beginning I misunderstood,
But now I’ve got it, the word is good.
Say the word and you’ll be free,
Say the word and be like me,
Say the word I’m thinking of,
Have you heard the word is love?
It’s so fine,
It’s sunshine,
It’s the word, love.
So now that we are all feeling copasetic, tell someone you love them.
Get ready to throw tomatoes, Merbear. i have never heard this song before. Remember, no judgement leads to love.
Thank you for introducing me. Definitely a song for B4Peace.
No tomatoes.
The Beatles have an extensive catalog of music that most people are not privy. Your welcome.
Never heard of this one. Thanks Merby – love the grass optional – you a ‘dag’ … listening to John…and how his freedom was cut short…makes ya think. xx
Yes, poor John. It’s a good song, not well known. When I first heard it, I didn’t care for it much. It grew on me though.
Ohhhhhh! Thank you! This was one of my favorites for quite a while (way back then…) I still LOVE it! I’m linking this to my post today – Thanks!
with LOVE
Tomas
