The Tetris effect occurs when people devote sufficient time and attention to an activity that it begins to overshadow their thoughts, mental images and dreams. It is named after the video game Tetris. (Thanks Wiki.)
I know, right?
I stumbled upon this by accident, and it’s just a weird coincidence that my mom and I were talking about the same idea the other day. She told me she plays Words with Friends in her sleep. Her brain is constantly full of letters. I admitted that I suffered from this affliction as well. Many times, actually.
Pacman The Sims Tetris Words with Friends
Super Mario brothers Asteroids Q-bert Farmville (Not)
Angry birds Plants vs Zombies Wordpress

See you in your dreams, bitch.
Holy shit, that’s a long list. (It also proves without a shadow of a doubt that I have no life.)
Yep, I added WordPress, because I find myself thinking about it all the time. People are sending me reminders on WWF, because I haven’t played a word in days. Why? Because I am like so busy reading blogs, writing, and coming up with something somewhat readable everyday. So maybe there should be a “Blogging Effect” as well.
What the hell is Q-bert, anyways?
You’re not the only one honey.
I figured as much.
I used to love Q-Bert back in the 80s. You try to go up this pyramid (as Q-Bert) as monsters try to rain down on you and stop you. He was cute.
He was cute, but what the hell was he? An aardvark gone crazy?
I don’t think he was anything, really … an alien maybe? We never knew. Well, at least I didn’t. I thought he was cute though.
He looks like a testicle gone mutant!
That made me laugh for a full minute. Thank you.
Oh yeah…I totally have the Blogging Effect.
I think we all do..
Good Lord! I’m not alone. Though it’s not tetris. It’s my whole life. Asleep or awake, I’m replaying everything in my head all the time. I have games and even tv surfing in there. Oh my.
I hate that, especially when I’m trying to sleep. Can’t I just count sheep?
Lol. I would end up having to name them, and then that would lead to their life histories.
This is Hank, he’s addicted to cookie dough and skittles.
This Howard, he is usually standing in a corner twitching from combining too many uppers and downers.
Nice! LOL
It’s how my mind goes. It likes to make them as interesting as I, myself am.
words…words…more words…they are constantly running through my brain….as for Pandas comment roflmao!
Panda always answers my queries..
I played the hell out of Nintendo when I was a kid, but don’t think I ever played any games in my sleep. I do, however, remember a time when my family got on a BIG canasta kick (the official card game of my family). One summer day, I literally played canasta, with various sisters and parents, from the time I woke up until the time I went to bed. Sure enough, that night I found myself playing cards in my sleep… literally reaching up with my hands to play a card while half-asleep. I wasn’t aware this effect was named after Tetris…. which I never really became fascinated with anyway!
I played Tetris on an old Gameboy when I went to the bathroom..I would play so long my ass would get cold.
I think that’s awesome that your family has an official game. Ours was Hearts when I was a kid.
Q-Bert is either a male sex toy, or a defunct muppet. I can’t remember which one now. Dammit. I’ll get back to you.
Thank you. lol
