Whenever I hear this song, I think about the beginnings of my relationship with my husband. He was a tough catch. For the first 3 years, he was fixated on the idea of being in a black metal band and I was basically on the back burner.

He didn’t want to commit. The first time he moved in with me, he freaked out and ended up moving out within a month. We didn’t talk for 2 weeks, until he called me. He said he missed me and could he come over?

I was head over heels and agreed, even though he broke my heart.

I guess you could say that the loneliness like a heartbeat drove him mad.

He ended up moving back in with me a short while later, after I told him that unless he stopped being a jerk, I would continue to date other guys.

Worked like a charm.

Β Dreams by Fleetwood Mac 1977

Now here you go again
You say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It’s only right that you should
Play the way you feel it

But listen carefully to the sound
Of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost…
And what you had…
And what you lost

(Oooooh)

Oh, thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Say, women…they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know
You’ll know

Now here I go again, I see, the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It’s only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and
Have you any dreams you’d like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness…
Like a heartbeat drives you mad…
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost…
What you had…
Ooh, what you lost

Thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know

Oh, thunder only happens when it’s raining
Players only love you when they’re playing
Say women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you’ll know
You’ll know
You will know
Oh, oh, oh you’ll know
