My daughter and I were brainstorming last night on ways to make money.

“I could sell some of my Beatles stuff,” I said.

“Good luck with that,” she replied.

“Yeah, none of it is really worth much. Maybe a couple of the records. “Hard Days Night” is $50 on Ebay.”

“You could always work the corner,” my 20-year-old daughter said with a straight face.

“Ha! I’d have to offer some pretty low rates.”

“You could be an escort or something. Or work at a strip club.”

“The men there would need to use eyeball bleach afterwards.”

“I’m just trying to help. Sheesh.”

“Just finish college and make lots of money. I don’t want you to have to deal with this kind of stress, kid.”

“Yeah, I’m working on it.”

“It’s just life, Mer. Some people have it and some don’t.”

My mom sent me this message last night on Words with Friends.

I thought it so profound that I put it on Facebook. It only received 4 likes, so I suppose few people agree with my mom and her wisdom on the subject of money.

I think it’s absolutely brilliant. Then again, I think that anything my mom says sparkles like a diamond.

Or rather, cubic zirconia.

The day I finally gave in to my illnesses and applied for disability was the day that I gave up any sort of financial security.

Making that decision was one of the hardest things that I’ve ever had to do. I don’t fucking recommend it if it can be helped. It turns your entire life upside down and eventually, it will shred your creditworthiness to tiny pieces.

Money (That’s What I Want)  1963 by The Beatles

The best things in life are free
But you can keep ’em for the birds and bees

Now give me money (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want (that’s what I want) yeah
That’s what I want

Your loving give me a thrill,
But your loving don’t pay my bills

Now give me money (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want (that’s what I want) yeah
That’s what I want

Money don’t get everything it’s true
What it don’t get I can’t use

Now give me money (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want (that’s what I want) yeah
That’s what I want

Well, now give me money (that’s what I want)
Whole lot of money (that’s what I want)
Whoa yeah, I wanna be free (that’s what I want)
Oh, money (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want, yeah (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want

Well, now give me money (that’s what I want)
Whole lot of money (that’s what I want, whoo)
Whoa, yeah, you know I need money (that’s what I want)
Now give me money (that’s what I want, whoo)
That’s what I want, yeah (that’s what I want)
That’s what I want
